THUNDERBOLTS is the competitive program the club offers. It is designed to meet the needs of our older, more experienced players with advanced skill and greater ambition. This player might have his or her sights set on playing in high school, the Olympic Development Program (ODP), Player Development Opportunity (PDO), college or even on a US National team. Or this player may just want to play the game of soccer at the highest level available to him or her in Great Falls and Montana. The program, comprised of the Premier (AA) and Select (A) Competitive programs, is committed to maintaining sensitivity to the needs of all players. We recognize that even this program will be comprised of players of varying skill level and commitment. However, at both the Premier and Select levels of the Competitive Program, the club actively encourages our young players to seek the highest level of play for which they are suited. Players will be grouped, trained, and play at a level of competition that is appropriate to his/her development. The programs are designed to teach the game and challenge players to develop their skills to the highest level attainable. This is done by putting players in a competitive, challenging soccer environment.
MINIBOLTS is the developmental program the club offers. No scores are kept, no tournament is played and no league champion is crowned. The vehicle we use to introduce new players to the game and to develop the skill of other players, is the small sided game program, as recommended by the United States Soccer Federation. The program encourages teaching young players the sport through the use of games utilizing smaller teams and a smaller playing area. A player’s first soccer experience should be positive. Having FUN is emphasized, and competitive pressures are discouraged.
